Xi’an museum bookings with a passport: keep the venues separate

Do Xi’an Museum, Small Wild Goose Pagoda and the grounds need separate bookings?

For the original November plan, reserve Xi’an Museum / 西安博物院 once for its museum-and-Small-Wild-Goose-Pagoda complex. 小雁塔 and the Jianfu Temple grounds belong to that visit; do not start three unrelated general-admission bookings. The current museum instructions still require a reservation for foreign visitors, so November is not a walk-in exemption. A separately advertised paid exhibition may have its own ticket, and admission does not promise that the pagoda can be climbed.

Keep these two institutions separate

• Xi’an Museum / 西安博物院 — 72 Youyi West Road / 友谊西路72号, the Small Wild Goose Pagoda complex. Its current official visitor notes name the museum website, 西安博物院 official WeChat and 携程旅行 (Ctrip) for individual reservations. Foreign visitors reserve normally, then take the successful order and original identification to the manual window. Carry the original passport used for the reservation; do not follow the mainland-ID gate instruction as though it replaces that manual step.
• Shaanxi History Museum / 陕西历史博物馆 — main building at 91 Xiaozhai East Road / 小寨东路91号. It is a different museum with a different booking system. The Chinese guide directs visitors to the 陕西历史博物馆 official WeChat account; its English reservation notice also lists Passport and a successful official visit order. Do not use the Xi’an Museum booking, the Small Wild Goose Pagoda booking, or a Terracotta Warriors ticket as admission here.

Book the Xi’an Museum visit

1. Open the Xi’an Museum official homepage linked below and choose its current online-ticket entry, or use the named official WeChat/Ctrip route. Select your November date and period only when that date is actually available. A calendar that has not opened yet does not mean reservations have been abolished.
2. Use your own passport details where the booking flow accepts the relevant document type. Check the institution name, date, period, visitor details and successful order. Save the order offline. Never fill an 18-digit Chinese identity field with an invented number or another person’s identity.
3. Arrive within the reserved period with your original passport and order, and ask for the manual ticket-exchange window. The official rule makes that service conditional on a successful reservation; it is not a promise that staff will sell or issue an unbooked walk-in ticket.
4. If a channel cannot accept your document or complete verification, stop that attempt and try another channel named on the museum’s own current page. If none produces a successful order, change the date or visit plan. A failed screen or an enquiry is not a reservation; you do not need to wait for a telephone reply before choosing another activity.

Shaanxi History Museum: protect the order and the cancellation deadline

For the main building, tickets release at 17:00 China time five days ahead. Entering visitor details in advance is only prefill; the successful-order page is the confirmation. Reserve one period you can actually attend and keep the original passport. The museum says it has not authorised third-party ticket sales or paid ticket bundles. An English QR-code entry is not evidence that you can finish a separate route without account verification.

The current official no-show wording still conflicts. The Chinese guide says failing to cancel before the reserved period stops checking tickets counts as a no-show, followed by 180 calendar days from that date. The English visit page says two or more no-shows in a calendar year trigger a restriction through day 180 from blacklisting. A separate English reservation notice dated 18 May 2026 says 180 days from the no-show after a missed cancellation, but describes the cancellation cutoff as the visit day’s last entry. The differing pages remain online; this guide does not decide that one has superseded another.

1. Keep only a booking you expect to use. As soon as your plan changes, open that museum’s official order and cancel. For Shaanxi History Museum, the English notice gives official WeChat → Ticket Reservation → Cancel Reservation.
2. Aim to finish cancellation before the reserved period begins. This is a conservative personal buffer ahead of the conflicting published cutoffs, not a new official deadline. Save a screen showing the order is cancelled; an opened cancellation page, a sent message or a payment refund alone is not that confirmation.
3. If cancellation fails, preserve the order and error and use the support route shown in that official order. Do not assume a first no-show is free, create duplicate bookings to work around a restriction, or promise that support will remove a ban. Rebuild the day around an activity for which you actually have valid admission.

What happens at the other museum, and an available fallback

Xi’an Museum’s published visitor notes say a missed reserved period means no admission; they do not establish the Shaanxi History Museum 180-day sanction. Cancel an unused Xi’an Museum booking in its own booking channel and retain the result, but do not copy a penalty or cancellation cutoff from the other institution.

If the Shaanxi History Museum main-building booking is unsuccessful, its current Chinese guide allows a separate visit to the Qin-Han branch / 陕西历史博物馆秦汉馆 with an original passport and no advance reservation. That branch is in Qin-Han New City, Xixian New Area, on the eastern section of Lanchi Third Road; it is not beside the main building or the Small Wild Goose Pagoda. Check the official branch notice and whether the journey fits your day before choosing it. This alternative is not a ticket for either central-Xi’an museum.
