Shanghai's official guide lists four major and six smaller railway stations. A city-pair search can show several. Only the issued ticket decides the departure station.
Separate Hongqiao airport from Hongqiao railway station
They share the wider hub but not the same entrance or passenger process. Route to the exact airport terminal or railway station shown by the ticket.
Keep departure morning reversible
Checkout, luggage, traffic, security and a wrong entrance can consume the apparent spare time. Do not place a non-refundable attraction before an early train or flight.
What to do when the default breaks
The driver or map shows another Shanghai station
Stop before moving. Show the full Chinese station name and ticket to hotel or railway staff, then rebuild the ride to the confirmed hub.
The airport or terminal changed
Use the airline's current official instruction and staffed airport help. Do not reuse the old screenshot until PVG/SHA and the terminal match again.
Delay consumes the disruption buffer
Switch only to a confirmed faster licensed route when it still protects the carrier deadline; otherwise contact the carrier immediately.
The passport and ticket identity do not match
Use the carrier's official support or staffed counter before security. Do not assume it will be fixed at the gate.

Are Shanghai Hongqiao Airport and Railway Station the same entrance?
No. They form one wider transport hub but remain different passenger processes and destinations. Use SHA plus terminal for a flight, or 上海虹桥站 for a train.
How early should I arrive?
Use the current instruction from China Railway or the operating airline for the exact service, then add the complete city transfer and a separate disruption buffer.
