Do not confuse the Airport Link Line with Metro Line 2
The Airport Link Line connects Hongqiao Airport T2 and Pudong Airport T1&2 in around 40 minutes of train travel. Allow additional time for waiting, terminal access and any onward connection. Follow the current signs for your specific interchange station. It is useful for the airport corridor, not automatically for a central hotel.
Keep the Gate 25 and Gate 26 conflict visible
The government overview says PVG T2 Gate 25, while the older airport operator taxi page says Gate 26. Neither page is treated as current terminal truth. Use the signed official terminal taxi queue/rank and confirm current availability with signs/staff or 021-96990 on arrival.
Arrival day is a setup block
Immigration, baggage, connectivity, payment and check-in can consume the apparent evening. Keep the first night untimed unless all four arrival checks close early.
What to do when the default breaks
The rail route or last useful service is unclear
Stop inside the staffed terminal. Check the operator timetable and live notices once; if the final hotel leg is still unclear, use the signed official terminal taxi queue/rank and confirm current availability with signs/staff or 021-96990.
The phone, eSIM or ride-hailing app fails
Keep the device and order intact. Use airport Wi-Fi or a staffed service point to call the hotel, then show the offline Chinese address at the official taxi queue.
The driver or map shows the other airport or terminal
Do not move. Reconcile PVG/SHA and T1/T2 with the airline record and airport staff before rebuilding the route.
The hotel cannot confirm late entry
Remain with airport staff and use a verified staffed airport or terminal fallback. Do not leave with an unsolicited driver to search for accommodation.
Before you act
Are PVG and SHA interchangeable?
No. Pudong and Hongqiao are different airports. The ticket's three-letter code and terminal control the route.
Does Line 2 serve both Hongqiao terminals?
No. The current official guide lists Line 10 for T1 and Lines 2 and 10 for T2.
Is the Airport Link Line the best route to People's Square?
Not by default. It is a fast airport-to-airport corridor. Use Line 2 for the simple PVG-to-People's-Square planning reference while it is operating; use the Link only when its station and onward transfer solve the actual trip.
