Why this branch: Choose imperial Beijing and one different northern city. Four Beijing nights protect three city days after arrival; two Tianjin nights give the Haihe port city its own day. On 12306, search your actual date and compare named Beijing departure and Tianjin arrival stations; use Beijing South (北京南) → Tianjin Station (天津站) only if a bookable train suits the Tianjin Station hotel base. Arrange the station-to-hotel leg. Leave from the Tianjin gateway actually booked, or buy a separate return to Beijing. An early Beijing flight needs a final Beijing night. When to cut it: With four nights, keep Beijing alone. If the neighbouring rail leg, last ride or exit fails on the travel date, spend the extra day in Beijing or change the departure, rather than adding Tianjin and Chengde together.
HERITAGE SPINE · 6 NIGHTSDatong 大同 → Taiyuan 太原 → Pingyao 平遥
Why this branch: Choose Buddhist cave sculpture, central Shanxi architecture and a walled town as three separate bases. Two nights in each place give Taiyuan time for Jinci or museums beyond a station change. This trip replaces the Beijing-neighbour route with its own nights and tickets.

Why this branch: Choose a spring-city arrival and one protected Mount Tai day. Use Jinan (1 night) and Tai'an (2 nights), leaving Qingdao's coast and Qufu's Confucian sites for different trips. The mountain is a separate admission and transport chain, requiring travel beyond the railway station.

From high-speed Tai'an Station, confirm a road ride to Tianwai Village (天外村), then use the scenic vehicle to Zhongtianmen (中天门), with an onward cableway or approved walking route subject to the day's operation. When to cut it: Without a viable full mountain day, keep Jinan as a city stay or move the trip. A station-change day leaves the Mount Tai ascent for another date.
ONE GRASSLAND AREA · 3 NIGHTSHolingol 霍林郭勒 → Ulagai 乌拉盖
Why this branch: Choose one grassland area in eastern Xilingol, with three nights by Bayan Hushuozhen (巴彦胡硕镇), when the chosen site opens in your visiting season. Allow arrival, one selected landscape visit and weather slack. This rural journey uses one Ulagai area, with its own approach from Holingol rather than Hulunbuir.
- Bayan Hushuozhen 巴彦胡硕镇 3 nightsUse a town-side lodging and arranged pickup point for one Ulagai scenic-loop stop, such as Nine Bend Bay (九曲湾), plus a spare day.
Entry, transfer and return: First secure a real dated inbound and outbound Holingol airport (霍林郭勒机场) itinerary. Then ask for the airport-to-Bayan Hushuozhen service and return on those dates; a 2025 government notice documents an airport–Nine Bend Bay bus opening, while today's departure comes from the operator. At the Ulagai town visitor-service centre or Renfang Square (人防广场), ask for the current scenic-loop stops, return and any required booking before choosing one site. A prebooked car with a return agreement is the fallback. An early outbound flight may require the last night in Holingol instead of the town.
When to cut it: If the dated air/road chain or return is unavailable, drop Ulagai. Xilinhot or Hulunbuir is a new trip with new distances and requires its own gateway and transfer plan.
