A single airline ticket does not automatically include the Shanghai airport change

You can make a late Hongqiao→Pudong airport change by public night bus or taxi. A single China Eastern/Shanghai Airlines ticket does not by itself pay for the road transfer or move your checked bags. If you can reach Hongqiao T2’s night-bus waiting room before an available departure between 22:30 and 01:00, the published fare is RMB 36 per person; after the last departure, use a licensed taxi or an app-booked car.

Nighttime Hongqiao-to-Pudong on a China Eastern/Shanghai Airlines ticket

The original traveller has a late arrival at SHA and a onward flight from PVG after the Airport Link has closed. Exact flight times, date, SHA arrival terminal, PVG departure terminal, bag arrangements and issued benefits are still unknown. The routes below work without assuming that an airline transfer voucher will be issued.

Choose the transport that is still operating

When you are ready with your bags: In time for the last Airport Link from SHA T2 at 22:00

Route and boarding point: Airport Link / 市域机场线, 虹桥2号航站楼 → 浦东1号2号航站楼

Cost and timing: RMB 26; about 40 min on train, normally 15 min between departures. Current first train 05:45. Add access, wait and terminal walking.

When you are ready with your bags: Can reach the T2 bus waiting room for 22:30,23:10,23:40,00:30 or 01:00

Route and boarding point: 虹桥守航夜宵定班线, 虹桥东交通中心, 2号候车室 → 浦东机场

Cost and timing: RMB 36/person unless an applicable airline ticket covers it. This is the direct PVG fixed-departure night line, not the similarly named bus into the city.

When you are ready with your bags: After 01:00, bus unavailable, or waiting loses too much time

Route and boarding point: Licensed taxi from the airport’s marked taxi queue; alternatively use the pickup point shown by your car app

Cost and timing: Passenger pays unless a specific benefit/authorisation says otherwise. Taxi uses the meter; app price depends on the selected service. Neither has a guaranteed journey time.

From SHA T2 public arrivals, follow East Transport Centre / 东交通中心 and airport-bus signs to waiting room 2. Show the exact bus name below. The airport lists operator information at 021-22351888. Confirm the actual departure and PVG terminal stop before boarding; the published table names the airport but does not specify a T1/T2 stop sequence. Sources 3–5.

If your SHA arrival is T1, allow an extra terminal transfer before the T2 bus. When operating, Metro Line 10 toward Hongqiao Railway Station / 虹桥火车站 goes one stop from Hongqiao Terminal 1 to Terminal 2; follow airport T2/East Transport Centre signs. Do not go to Hongqiao Railway Station itself. If that transfer is closed or loses the useful bus, take a taxi from T1 directly to your confirmed PVG terminal.

At night, expect to carry the bags yourself

China Eastern’s 18 March 2026 notice says its Hongqiao Airport Link and air–rail transfer desks stop accepting bags for PVG departures after 21:30. It says passengers may check in/select seats and collect a 虹桥守航夜宵定班线 ticket, then re-tender bags at PVG’s designated B24 domestic or K13 international counter. It does not publish complete overnight desk hours or eligibility for every ticket. Ask an open airline desk about your booking; if it is closed or cannot issue the benefit promptly, use the public paid bus or taxi. Follow current PVG screens if counter allocation changes. A bag tag with the final destination is not enough to prove cross-airport carriage. A narrower no-collection service was announced for selected domestic origins arriving SHA and continuing internationally from PVG, but your itinerary and operating hours must qualify. Unless staff confirm your exact approved process, collect your luggage at SHA, take it across the city, and allow PVG bag drop. If SHA is an international arrival, permission to enter mainland China and immigration/Customs time are additional requirements; an airport change is landside. Source 8.

Check the whole connection, not just the road time

Start the calculation when you actually reach SHA public arrivals with your bags. For planning, allow about 170 minutes to PVG check-in using the night bus:20 to reach the waiting room + up to 50 until the next listed departure +90 on the road +10 at PVG. For a taxi use about 120 minutes:20 to queue/board +90 road +10 at PVG. These are our conservative examples, not operator journey-time promises; traffic disruption can require more. T1→T2 access is additional for the bus.

Then add the onward airport procedures. A practical planning target is arrival at PVG check-in 3 hours before an international flight or 2 hours before a domestic flight, unless the carrier needs more. The much later hard cutoff is not a sensible arrival target: China Eastern’s current PVG T1 table lists check-in/bag drop closing 50 minutes before international departure or 40 minutes before domestic departure, and the gate 20 minutes before departure. Confirm the exact flight and operating carrier; follow earlier boarding-pass or screen instructions. Source 6.

Example: if bags are in hand at SHA T2 at 23:00, the 23:10 bus is a fragile choice because reaching its waiting room takes time. Planning on 23:40 plus 90 minutes driving and 10 minutes to the counter gives 01:20 at PVG check-in. Compare that with your own flight’s planning target and deadlines before keeping the ticket. If it does not fit, seek a same-airport itinerary or a later flight. This example does not establish that an unspecified overnight connection is safe.

Who pays, and what the single ticket changes

China Eastern’s conditions effective 1 July 2026 exclude transport between airports and terminals from airfare (3.2.1.1). A separately issued Airport Link/night-bus benefit can cover a specified journey; ask for the actual voucher and its conditions. Without it, budget to pay. A60 km standard-city-taxi meter example is about RMB 229 by day or RMB 297 at 23:00–05:00, before waiting, tolls and other permitted adjustments. The night example approximates the daytime distance charge multiplied by 1.30 and rounded to whole yuan; it is not an exact meter simulation. That is a worked distance example, not a quoted SHA→PVG fare; the actual road distance and fare depend on terminals and route. Sources 1 and 7.

The same conditions provide non-voluntary changes in specified disruption cases, including a late inbound leaving less than the applicable minimum connection time and causing the missed onward flight. They do not make every traffic delay reimbursable. Have the issuer verify the exact connection and applicable operating-carrier terms, especially where Shanghai Airlines operates a sector. Obtain handling instructions before becoming a no-show; keep boarding passes, bag tags and transport receipts. Source 1.

If the plan fails on arrival

• Bus sold out, delayed or already gone: go to the airport’s signed taxi queue. Use an app car only if you can identify its exact pickup point and match the number plate; do not follow an unsolicited driver.
• A missing bag: report it before leaving baggage arrivals and obtain a case number. Ask the airline to handle bag delivery and the onward ticket together.
• Available transport no longer fits the onward deadline: contact the airline/issuer immediately about alternatives; do not spend the remaining margin hunting an uncertain voucher.
• Wrong terminal or destination in the app: correct it before boarding. Show 浦东国际机场[1/2]号航站楼出发层, plus flight number. SHA / 虹桥机场 is the airport you are leaving.
