Confirm a China Eastern transit hotel before relying on it

For Haneda–Hongqiao followed by Pudong–Abu Dhabi the next day, a submitted hotel application does not give you a room or transport between the two airports. Keep a paid backup until China Eastern confirms the hotel, guest names, stay date and arrival instructions. If the application remains unanswered, you can still finish the overnight plan below.

What can be decided before a hotel is assigned

China Eastern’s 11 February 2026 announcement offers one night of transit accommodation to qualifying passengers on 781-ticket-stock itineraries operated by China Eastern or Shanghai Airlines. Shanghai is included. This establishes that the benefit exists; it does not settle this cross-airport itinerary’s fare threshold, connection window, booking deadline, hotel location or shuttle coverage. The same announcement’s airport-rail benefit is a separate product and is not proof of hotel eligibility.

Retrieve the existing request

1. Open China Eastern’s official transit-service page. It has ticket verification, product information and “查看我的订单” (view my orders). Use the passenger name exactly as ticketed, the 13-digit 781 ticket number and the flight/document details requested there. Enter personal information only in the official airline service.
2. Check the existing order before starting another application. Save its current status and reference. If the page requires login, cannot retrieve the journey or cannot display the rules, use airline support or the original ticket seller with the same reference.
3. Ask for a decision covering both airports: arrival at SHA/Hongqiao on [date/time], departure from PVG/Pudong on [date/time]. A reply saying only “Shanghai transit” is not enough to establish which journeys the shuttle covers.
4. For an approved stay, save the hotel’s Chinese name/address, direct phone, guest names, check-in/out dates, included room/meal arrangements, any required supplement, and pickup/drop-off instructions offline. The hotel is landside: a booking does not supply permission to enter China.

A concrete paid backup for the next-day Pudong flight

Aerotel Shanghai (上海浦东遨途机场酒店) is inside Pudong T2, landside, on floors 6–7, with 24-hour hotel operation and hourly booking. Its official booking page lets you choose check-in and check-out times. Contact +86 21 5831 3839. From T2’s G check-in row, go up to the fourth-floor hotel entrance, then take the lift to reception on floor 6. It is also a usable enquiry for a full overnight stay; a room is secured only by its own confirmation.

For this route, moving to Pudong after reaching Hongqiao puts the overnight stay at the departure airport. That is a planning choice, not a free transfer supplied by the hotel offer. Budget separately for SHA → PVG travel and allow for Hongqiao’s actual arrival terminal, baggage collection and entry checks. Use the Hongqiao-to-Pudong transfer guide to plan the airport journey. Confirm the Abu Dhabi flight’s terminal on the ticket; staying in T2 does not prove the flight departs there.

Compare the total for your exact stay and party size, including tax, extra bed/occupancy charges and any early check-in. If you need flexibility, select a rate that explicitly permits cancellation and save the local deadline; hourly or promotional rates are not automatically refundable. No current undated rate can establish this as the cheapest hotel.

Calls and email go unanswered

1. Use China Eastern’s published 24-hour global line, +86 21 20695530, with the application reference and issued ticket numbers. Ask the agent to retrieve the existing hotel request and give either a confirmed booking or a specific reason it cannot be confirmed.
2. If you bought through an agent or platform, ask that original seller to raise the same request with China Eastern and return the airline case reference. This is an alternative way to pursue the case, not a guarantee of faster approval.
3. Set a practical decision point using your backup room’s cancellation terms and the time you must leave for the airport. If no named room has been confirmed by then, keep and use the paid room. Do not spend the arrival night waiting for an unanswered email.
4. If approval arrives later, compare its airport transfers and arrival time with the room already held before cancelling anything. Keep receipts and dated application records, but do not assume China Eastern will reimburse a room bought independently.
