Quanzhou: a maritime city
Quanzhou's sea-trade city joins Buddhist pagodas, a historic mosque, Confucian halls and a Mazu shrine. Stay three nights at one 百源路 hotel for two full days; Luoyang Bridge needs a return ride, and Donghu museum admission remains conditional.

How long, and what goes together
Allow three hotel nights for two complete sightseeing days. Arrival and departure each need their own transfer block. With two nights, protect the old-city core and its hotel return; the museum and bridge are the first cuts. Use an extra night for an unrushed northeast choice, rather than stacking every UNESCO component into a single walk.

- #1 → #2 · about 2.5–3.5 h: the Kaiyuan exit meets 西街. Temple rites or a changed gate time make the public street the fallback.
- #3 → #4 · about 1.5–2.5 h: both sit on the central old-city line. Qingjing admits sightseers only during its current visitor window; retain 府文庙 and public 涂门街 if worship closes it.
- #5 → #6 · about 1–2 h: the Mazu shrine and separate south-gate archaeology face each other across 天后路. Leave enough daylight and a booked pickup to the same hotel.
- #8 → #7 · half to full daylight block plus rides: the museum is a possible first northeast stop, followed by the bridge's south approach. If Donghu cannot give a dated open-door answer, make #7 the only northeast stop; storm barriers cut both.
These are editorial visit allowances, excluding meals, queues and traffic. They describe possible pairings, rather than a fixed calendar itinerary.
Book ahead: secure the three gates that matter
- Match the external door. Save the issued flight terminal or 12306 train ↗ with the Chinese station name. 泉州站 and 泉州东站 use different pickup areas and travel legs.
- Secure one hotel door. Send the booked property the passport nationality, arrival time, room count and exact reservation number. Ask it in writing for the front desk's document handling, late arrival and legal car drop-off before paying a restrictive rate.
- Resolve conditional entrances. Qingjing's February 2026 notice ↗ changed worship-period access. Donghu's October 2025 closure ↗, the city's campus-unspecified February 2026 holiday list ↗ and July 2026 weather notice ↗ answer different questions and dates. Seek the museum's current date, campus, entrance, gallery, ticket and passport/QR reply before adding #8.
- Secure the return. Use the travel day's weather and current bridge barrier for exposed #7, then reserve the bridge-south ride back. Save the south-city pickup after #5–6 as a separate journey.
Where to stay: one hotel for both returns
Default: 百源路 / 府文庙 edge. Quanzhou Overseas Chinese Hotel · 泉州华侨大厦 ↗ publishes 百源路1号. Its door keeps #3 near the central return and gives #1 a deliberate westward walk; budget 20–30 minutes to Kaiyuan as a planning allowance, with event traffic and crossings added on the day. The cost is busy old-city streets and potentially noisy evenings. Save the hotel's Chinese name and a written passport-registration answer; its address alone says nothing about the actual front-desk outcome.
Change base for an easier east-side road exit: Holiday Inn Express Quanzhou City Center · 泉州中心智选假日酒店 ↗ publishes 温陵北路597号. Use its own entrance for both returns and take a separate ride or longer walk to #1–2. IHG says this property has no airport shuttle. For either hotel, use the booked room's live total, cancellation terms and property's direct document reply; this page has no room inventory or check-in test.
Getting to Quanzhou: finish at the actual hotel door
JJN · 泉州晋江国际机场: China Eastern's terminal guide ↗ describes taxi and app-pickup areas, but the city documented pickup-point changes in 2025 ↗. At arrivals, follow the current airport taxi sign or the ride app's assigned bay instead of an older car-park label. Give the driver 泉州华侨大厦，百源路1号 or the other booked hotel's Chinese name and number; match the app plate, then walk from the legal curb to its actual entrance. Allow 50–90 minutes from airport exit to hotel door as an editorial buffer, plus baggage and traffic. A bus needs its live stop, last service and final walk before it can replace this default.
泉州站 · Quanzhou Station: leave by the signed rail exit and use its regulated taxi or app stand to the booked hotel door. The 2026 transport office bus list ↗ gives station services, while 多彩泉行 ↗ provides live direction and stop data. A 45–80 minute exit-to-door allowance is editorial, with queue and road time added.
泉州东站 · Quanzhou East Station: this is a different rail station in the Taiwan Investment Zone. At its signed pickup area use a taxi/app car to the same hotel address, or match a bus's direction, centre stop and final walk. The 2026 transport-office list ↗ names 旅游4路 among city tourism routes; it does not establish that route's East Station stop or the connection for your train. Budget 60–110 minutes exit-to-door editorially.
Leaving: reverse the route from the booked hotel entrance to the exact JJN terminal, 泉州站 or 泉州东站 printed on the issued ticket. Set the pickup and station/airport reporting buffer the previous evening; the stated minute ranges are planning allowances, not vehicle timetables or taxi quotes.
Getting around: walk the core, ride for the northeast
Use the signed Kaiyuan–West Street–府文庙–清净寺 walking spine, with a separate southward choice for #5–6. The transport office describes roaming 小白 vehicles ↗ in the old city; find the current stop or request point in the live service instead of assuming an immediate pickup. A taxi/app car is the practical bridge and museum default: agree the exact bridge-south stop, return pickup and the hotel door before crossing. If a live bus is preferred, 多彩泉行 ↗ must show both directions and the last useful return for the actual date. For the airport, rail or bridge car, budget from the selected app's live estimate or the taxi meter; the transport office's 2026 fare notice ↗ says the displayed meter, including any dated holiday adjustment, governs a street taxi. No route-specific fare was established for this page.

The numbers match the priority list above. Gate facts belong to their named venue; an open public street cannot unlock a closed shrine or museum.
1. Kaiyuan Temple · 开元寺
The East and West pagodas give the old maritime city a visible starting point. Choose the temple for its stone towers and working Buddhist precinct, rather than treating the outside lane as the entire visit.

2. West Street · 西街
The Clock Tower-to-temple street adds homes, food and the view back toward the pagodas; it is an urban walk with its own value, even when the temple gate is shut.

- Start at the signed 钟楼 / 西街 junction or step out of Kaiyuan onto 西街; use the Clock Tower end for the turn toward 中山路 and 府文庙.
- How to visit
- 开元寺 side → old street façades and food stops → 钟楼 public crossing → 中山路 toward the Confucian precinct; reverse the street direction if arriving from the hotel.
3. Quanzhou Confucian Temple · 泉州府文庙
Its halls and school setting explain the city's learning and administration, a different layer from the Buddhist and Islamic stops.

- From 钟楼, take the signed central 中山路 approach to 泮宫 / 府文庙; the 百源路 hotel is the practical return anchor.

- Signed 泮宫 public entrance → court and open halls → signed exit toward 涂门街. Keep closed school or ritual areas outside the visit.
4. Qingjing Mosque · 清净寺
The stone gate and Islamic inscriptions show the people behind Quanzhou's overseas trade. Its religious use makes it a different decision from the nearby heritage halls.

- A February 2026 city notice limited visits during that year's Ramadan and announced short holiday closures. Those dates cannot set a later ordinary visitor window; use the current staffed visitor gate before entering. Dated source ↗

- Visitor gate → permitted stone gateway, inscriptions and exhibition area → same visitor exit. Prayer areas follow mosque instructions; a closed gate leads back to public 涂门街.
5. Tianhou Temple · 天后宫
The Mazu shrine connects a living maritime belief with the city's former route toward the river. Choose it when energy remains for the southward walk.

6. Site of Deji Gate · 德济门遗址
The exposed city wall and gate layers show the trade city's southward growth. This is an archaeological stop across from Tianhou, rather than another shrine room.

7. Luoyang Bridge · 洛阳桥
This estuary crossing makes the port's land network visible. It is a separate northeast journey, rather than an extension of the old-city walk.

- The Cultural Relics Center's 2026 guide describes the bridge as open all day; the mid-bridge display and Cai Xiang shrine were listed 09:00–17:00. Storm or work barriers control the actual walk. Dated source ↗

- Signed bridge-south approach → permitted stone span and tidal view → turn back to the same pickup. A full north-bank crossing needs a separately arranged pickup.
8. Quanzhou Maritime Museum, Donghu · 泉州海外交通史博物馆
The material collections can make the UNESCO trade network tangible before the bridge. Its main Donghu building is an optional choice until the current gate is known.

- An October 2025 issuer notice closed Donghu until further notice. A February 2026 city holiday list named the museum without specifying a campus; a July 2026 issuer notice named Donghu in a new weather closure. None establishes today's ordinary opening. - Allow 1.5–2 hours in open rooms plus the return road leg; move this block to another visit if access remains unresolved.

- Use a current bus or taxi/app car from the hotel to the 东湖街425号 site, then follow the museum's current visitor-entrance sign; a closed gate means staying with the old-city route or taking the bridge as the sole northeast stop.
- How to visit
- Confirmed Donghu gate → open trade and ship galleries → signed exit → bridge vehicle or return to the same hotel. The Kaiyuan Old Ship Hall is a different campus with its own opening answer.
Day trips: Xiamen is a separate city choice
Quanzhou earns its own overnight base. For a Xiamen-based return, require at least six usable hours in the old city after the inbound station transfer and before the outbound one, plus issued trains and the final ride to the Xiamen hotel. That editorial threshold covers the central walking route, not #7 and #8. If either train, Quanzhou rail door or final Xiamen hotel ride is unresolved, sleep in Quanzhou. For a through trip, leave the Xiamen hotel, use 12306 ↗ to select the exact Xiamen departure and 泉州站 / 泉州东站 arrival, then transfer to one Quanzhou hotel for three nights. Settle island and ferry timing in the Xiamen city guide before the rail move. A farther Quanzhou UNESCO component such as 九日山 or 石湖码头 is a separate road-return decision, outside these eight city choices.
Food and weather: fit the break to the street
The city's old-city route ↗ names 面线糊 (rice-flour noodle soup), 姜母鸭 (ginger duck) and 四果汤 (a chilled sweet bowl). Choose a clearly priced place on 西街 or the southbound walk; a meal and heat break matter more than squeezing in an extra heritage gate. For exposed #7, use the travel day's weather and current site barrier; the city's 2 September 2026 closure ↗ shows why a prior-date notice cannot grant access. A bridge barrier or heavy rain moves the time back to an open old-city stop and the same hotel.
If an entrance, vehicle or station fails
- Donghu gives no ordinary-day admission answer: keep #8 off the route. Use the confirmed old-city precincts, or make #7 the only northeast stop with a return vehicle. The Kaiyuan Old Ship Hall has a different gate and needs its own dated answer.
- Qingjing closes to sightseeing: remain on public 涂门街, keep #3 if its entrance is open, and continue south only if #5–6 and a hotel return still fit. Worship access takes priority.
- Bridge barrier, rain or return bus gap: cancel #7, keep the same hotel and use a safe central stop. A one-way ride to bridge north cannot substitute for a secured return from bridge south.
- Wrong rail station or late JJN arrival: read the issued ticket's 泉州站 / 泉州东站 again, reprice a taxi or DiDi trip to the booked door and protect the departure buffer. A late first evening becomes hotel arrival and food, while the complete old-city block survives.

Venue, city, operator and UNESCO pages were consulted on . Historic orders and seasonal visitor guides retain their own dates; they do not establish the future day's gate. The hotel addresses are operator statements. No foreign-passport hotel check-in, temple/museum admission, booking, bus, taxi, bridge crossing or room purchase was tested. The named travel times are editorial allowances rather than service promises. A reader's actual passport, ticket, weather and staffed gate still decide the conditional branches.
