Check a WeChat card prompt when you only need to message an agency
Do not enter card details just because your travel agency wants to use WeChat. First establish whether you are opening payments, facing a signup security check or following an external link. If chats already work, return to the agency conversation without finishing payment setup. If you still cannot finish signup, arrange email or telephone contact with the agency while the prompt is checked.
Travel agency requires WeChat, but signup asks for a credit card
The traveller was leaving in 15 days and had no clear explanation of the card request. Without the exact screen and the path used to reach it, it is not possible to identify the request as legitimate, fraudulent, compulsory or charge-free. You can still choose the next action without submitting the card.
What you actually see: Chats work; you went into Me → Services/Wallet → Add Bank Card, or a similarly labelled payment area
What to do: Go back to Chats and contact the agency. You opened payment setup; finish it later only if you want that payment service and understand its terms. Tencent’s visitor guidance describes account registration and subsequent card linking as separate steps.
What you actually see: Chats have never opened; a signup or Security Verification screen requests a card
What to do: Read the heading, stated purpose, other offered verification methods and any payment or authorization terms. Do not treat the heading alone as confirmation of what the card will be used for. Use a different offered method if appropriate. If the purpose or charge is unclear, stop at that screen and ask WeChat account support; there is no verified universal Skip button or card-free bypass to promise.
What you actually see: A web page, agency message, private QR code or outside helper asks for card details
What to do: Close that request while you verify it independently through the agency’s established booking contact. Open WeChat from its official app-store installation, not an unfamiliar download link. A supplier’s payment request is a separate transaction and should have a stated service, amount and payee; it is not explained simply by a need to exchange chat messages.
What you actually see: The card was already added and the next page asks for a bank code
What to do: Check the issuer’s own page and masked destination number. A bank verification code is not the same as a WeChat signup SMS. Use the bank’s official contact if its code or telephone details are wrong.
Check the app and the request before proceeding
- Open the app directly from your phone. On Android, compare it with the official Google Play WeChat listing below, including its publisher. Do not install a modified package offered by a verification seller.
- Write down the page heading and the taps that led there. Capture the explanation and any terms before entering sensitive data; hide any personal information already displayed.
- Determine whether the screen is adding a payment method, authorizing a specific amount or asking for an account check. If you cannot tell, do not press the final confirmation button.
- Ask WeChat account support what this exact screen does and which other verification methods are available. If it is explicitly a WeChat Pay screen, use the payment team instead. Keep your agency communication moving through the separate contact route below.
The official WeChat Google Play listing is published by WECHAT INTERNATIONAL PTE. LTD. and lists support@help.wechat.com. It describes messaging and payment features separately. Tencent’s visitor guidance likewise describes signing up or logging in before linking an eligible card for payments. Neither source authenticates an unidentified card prompt on your phone.
For a payment-specific question, Tencent Weixin Pay visitor guide lists 95017 in mainland China and +86 571 95017 outside mainland China. These numbers do not establish that a signup security check will be removed.
English support note — I only need WeChat messages with a travel agency. Before I can [open Chats / finish this step], the app shows [exact heading and text] after I tap [path]. Does this step verify my account, add a payment method or authorize a charge? What amount and terms apply, and which alternative verification methods are available? I have not authorized a payment. Please explain before I proceed.
Chinese support note —
Will it cost money?
Do not infer a fee from the mere appearance of a card field, and do not assume zero charge either. The official payment guide says overseas-card linking requires issuer verification and that supported products, limits and fees depend on the actual service and its terms. The checked sources do not establish a universal verification amount, a universal temporary authorization or its release time for this unidentified screen.
Read any amount, currency and authorization wording before confirming, and check your bank’s own fees when relevant. Sending an agency a message is different from paying its deposit or invoice. If you already submitted card information on an unknown page, contact the issuer through its official app or the number on the card to review any authorization or unfamiliar transaction and decide the appropriate card-protection action. Do not send the agency or a verification helper your card security code, password or bank SMS code.
Keep the agency reachable before departure
Use the agency’s existing booking email or telephone contact now. Ask it to send the written arrangements there and acknowledge your message. If it can offer help with signup, accept only an assistance route that the official app displays; that does not require handing over your account credentials. If no usable second channel is provided, the pickup contact is still unresolved, even if you have already paid for the tour.
English — I only need WeChat for communication, but I cannot finish signup because of a card-verification screen I do not understand. Please use [email] or [telephone] for now. My booking is [reference], arriving on [date]. Please send the written itinerary, a telephone number I can call on arrival day, the guide or pickup person’s name, the meeting time and location in Chinese with its address, and the plan if my flight is delayed. Please acknowledge that we can reach each other through this channel.
Save those details offline and show them to airport information staff or hotel reception if you need help calling on arrival. For missing codes or an eligible-helper check, use the separate WeChat registration recovery guide. Checked 13 September 2026. Before entering card details on an unclear screen, confirm what is being verified and whether any payment or authorisation is involved. If the purpose or charge remains unclear, stop before confirming and use the agreed email or telephone contact for your trip. Account approval and the safety or cost of an unseen prompt remain unconfirmed.
