REAL TRAVELLER ANSWER

Use DiDi at night and challenge a route or fare charge

Plan a solo night pickup in Harbin, match the station and vehicle, and separate immediate safety from a DiDi route or fare complaint after the ride.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Use a night DiDi pickup only when you can find the official meeting point, match the ordered car and reach the hotel's staffed entrance. If that chain fails, stay by station staff and use the official taxi queue or a hotel-arranged car; handle a disputed fare after reaching safety.

Use DiDi at night and challenge a route or fare charge

For a night arrival, a DiDi ride is an option when you can find the official pickup point, match the ordered vehicle and reach your hotel’s staffed entrance. If any of those steps fails, stay by station staff and use the official taxi queue or a hotel-arranged car. During a ride, respond to immediate danger first; investigate a disputed route or fare once you are somewhere safe.

Solo woman arriving at Harbin station at night

For the traveller arriving alone from Singapore and staying near Central Street / 中央大街, use the hotel’s full Chinese name and street address as the destination. Central Street is an area, not a hotel entrance. The following plan assumes your ticket says Harbin / 哈尔滨站; Harbin West / 哈尔滨西站 and Harbin East / 哈尔滨东站 are different starting points, so use the station printed on your ticket when selecting pickup.

  1. Before arrival, keep the hotel’s address and phone offline, confirm late check-in, and ask where a car can legally drop you near the staffed entrance. In snow or ice, avoid a plan that depends on a long unfamiliar walk from a generic Central Street pin.
  2. At the station, stay near staff while checking phone data and pickup directions. Use the signed 网约车 area selected in the order. If you cannot identify its exact floor or exit, ask station staff to direct you to the official 出租车 taxi queue instead.
  3. Before entering, compare the plate, vehicle and driver with the order. If they differ, do not board. Use the order’s help control and remain at the staffed pickup area. Do not cancel the app booking to accept a stranger’s private off-app ride.
  4. After the match, send the plate and destination to a trusted contact, use the seat belt, and keep the hotel address available. If reception arranged the ride, keep its order reference and contact details too.

English: I am travelling alone and need to reach this hotel tonight. Please show me this station’s official taxi queue or the ride-hailing pickup point in my order, and help me confirm the floor and exit.

Set up the safety controls before the ride

Open DiDi’s Safety Centre / 安全中心; the operator’s June 2024 guide describes its entrance as the blue shield on the home screen in this DiDi-authored guide. Look for the equivalent safety control on the current app/trip screen if its position differs. DiDi’s passenger rules describe adding an emergency contact and choosing times for automatic trip sharing. Set it up beforehand and confirm your chosen contact can actually receive the information. A safety feature being present does not mean it has been enabled.

The same rules describe emergency sharing when the one-touch alarm is used. Available controls and permissions vary; do not assume the WeChat/Alipay mini program has the same layout or that tapping an icon has connected you to police. Keep the phone’s ordinary dialler usable. If you cannot find the safety control promptly, use direct emergency calling instead.

If you feel threatened or cannot leave

  1. If it is safe to speak, ask the driver to stop at a well-lit, staffed public place. Get out only after the vehicle has stopped in a place where you can exit safely. Do not try to leave a moving car or argue over a fare while exposed to danger.
  2. If the driver threatens you, refuses a safe stop, prevents you leaving, or you face immediate danger, call 110 from the phone dialler. Give your city, road or visible landmark, travel direction, vehicle plate and what is happening. Use the app’s one-touch alarm if available, but verify that help has actually been reached.
  3. Once safely out, move to station staff, police or a staffed hotel/shop. Ask them to help contact police or DiDi. An injured person needing an ambulance can call 120. Save order details only when doing so is safe; do not delay leaving to collect screenshots.

English: Please stop at the next safe, permitted place with staff. I need to get out.

English emergency example—use only if true: I am in Harbin in a ride-hailing car. The driver is preventing me from leaving. I need police assistance. I will give you the plate, current road or nearby building, and direction of travel.

Harbin’s official hotline page separates emergency services such as 110/120 from ordinary 12345 complaints. Use emergency services for danger; an ordinary fare complaint belongs in the process below. No app, vehicle category or city-level reputation guarantees personal safety.

A RMB 150 ride appears to become RMB 300 after a detour

The reported 03:00 journey involved an initial RMB 150 payment and a later RMB 150 confirmation. That deserves a route and billing review. The first task is to distinguish the trip’s final price from the money actually collected; a screenshot of a larger route alone does not establish why the fare changed.

What your records show: RMB 150 was only an estimate; final fare is RMB 300

What to ask DiDi to investigate: A fare increase: ask for the pricing basis and the reason for the extra distance, time or fees.

What your records show: RMB 150 is pending/authorised rather than completed

What to ask DiDi to investigate: Ask whether it is a hold, and how it relates to the final payment. Do not count it as a second settled debit yet.

What your records show: Two completed RMB 150 payments; order total is RMB 150

What to ask DiDi to investigate: Possible duplicate collection: provide both payment references and ask which payment should be reversed.

What your records show: Two completed RMB 150 payments; order total is RMB 300

What to ask DiDi to investigate: The collection totals RMB 300, but the route or adjustment may still be wrong. Request both a route review and an itemised explanation of the additional RMB 150.

  1. From the same account/channel used to order, keep the trip record: order ID, city, pickup/drop-off, date/time, plate, original estimate, final fare breakdown, route trace, and messages about changing the route or adding a stop.
  2. In Alipay, WeChat Pay or your bank, save the two payment references, amounts, times and statuses. Count completed debits less completed refunds; keep pending authorisations separate. Redact unrelated purchases, full card numbers and identity documents from screenshots.
  3. Open the trip record and Customer Service / 客服. If the trip screen has no help control, open Customer Service from the app menu and select or supply the order ID. Ask for an English agent, a route/fare review, an explanation of both payments, and a case number with a written response.
  4. Identify what you actually agreed to. Tell support whether you changed the destination, authorised a stop or toll route, or were told about a closure. Ask for the reason and evidence for a detour; do not accept a second payment confirmation merely because the driver points at it. If you paid under pressure, describe that accurately in the safety complaint too.

Send a specific request, then escalate if needed

English billing request—RMB 150 + RMB 150 example: Please review this ride around 03:00. It first showed/collected RMB 150 and later requested another RMB 150 confirmation. Explain the final fare and whether each transaction is an estimate, authorisation, completed debit, adjustment or refund. Please also review the route and explain any detour and resulting distance, time and fees. Correct any unauthorised route charge or duplicate collection and provide a case number and written decision. I will attach the order ID, both payment references and screenshots through this order’s support channel.

DiDi’s China app listing advertises 24/7 online English customer service. Its passenger rules confirm that Customer Service accepts complaints and order evidence. If the in-app channel fails, the operator’s contact page lists passenger service at 4000000999 and Feedback@didiglobal.com. Use the official channel with the same case number; a 400 number may not connect from every foreign SIM or from abroad, so ask hotel staff to help call or use online support. No response time or refund is promised here.

If a transport-service complaint remains unresolved, take the order, plate, route, receipts and DiDi case/response to the ride city’s 12345 government-service hotline and ask for transfer to the transport authority. For the Harbin scenario, its official 12345 platform provides 24-hour staffed service. If you are now in another city, ask staff or the local hotline how to reach the city where the ride occurred rather than assuming your call reaches Harbin. A bank can separately clarify whether its entry is pending or settled; that does not decide whether the route was justified.

English escalation: I need to report a ride-hailing route and fare dispute from your city. The platform case is unresolved. Please refer it to the transport authority and give me a reference number and any evidence requirements. I can provide the plate, ride time, endpoints, order and payment records.

Checked 13 September 2026. The traveller’s actual receipt, bank status and route explanation are still needed to decide the specific RMB 300 dispute. These are normal case inputs, not a reason to delay the safety plan or the prepared complaint.
