Foreign senior and student tickets: choose the category that will get you in

A non-Chinese senior: reserve the visit before relying on a discount

For the Paris traveller accompanying a non-Chinese senior, the attraction and the visitor’s age were not supplied, so there is no single China-wide free-ticket answer. Do not wait at a reservation-only attraction hoping to sort out the concession at the gate. Use the venue’s own eligible category when its rules cover the traveller; otherwise secure an ordinary ticket if the visit matters more than the saving.

Situation: Palace Museum visitor aged 60 or above

Booking decision: The published senior rule is half price; it does not state a Chinese-nationality restriction. Use the official passport booking flow and the corresponding senior category. All visitors still need a reservation.

At entry: Carry the original passport used for booking. Age alone is not an unreserved entry pass.

Situation: The attraction explicitly limits the offer to Chinese nationals, local residents or a named certificate

Booking decision: Do not select that concession solely because your age matches. Choose the ordinary category unless another published rule covers you.

At entry: A foreign passport does not replace a required local-resident or concession certificate.

Situation: Eligibility is unclear or the passport flow does not offer the expected category

Booking decision: Use the operator’s named support channel before payment if time permits. If the visit is the priority and no clarification arrives, book the ordinary category you can validly use.

At entry: Do not assume staff will refund the difference or upgrade an invalid concession.

Situation: A free or discounted category is confirmed

Booking decision: Reserve that category if reservations are required. Do not buy an extra ordinary ticket just to hold the same person’s place.

At entry: Bring every required original eligibility document as well as the booking confirmation.

For the Palace example, open the English booking source below. Its published enquiry number is 400-950-1925. A reservation is complete only when the dated order confirms it; a request for help does not hold a place. The general senior wording is evidence for that venue, not proof of entitlement at another attraction.

Budget for two ordinary adult tickets at each attraction. Do not buy non-refundable student tickets on the strength of a foreign student card alone. The published material checked here does not establish that the two travellers’ foreign institutions and documents qualify. June was supplied without a year; an expired seasonal promotion cannot decide their tickets.

Attraction: Huangshan Scenic Area / 黄山风景区

What the operator or authority actually establishes: The earlier official student wording covers full-time undergraduate-or-below students with an original student card. It does not expressly resolve foreign institutions or a foreign student card. The official platform is 黄山旅游官方平台; a 2026 authority notice explicitly describes passport plus booking-information checks for overseas visitors.

Decision for these two students: Student concession unconfirmed. Use an ordinary ticket on the official platform that accepts the actual passport. Do not turn a lack of discount proof into “foreigners cannot enter”.

Attraction: Hangzhou Songcheng / 杭州宋城

What the operator or authority actually establishes: The operator’s current park and visitor-contact pages identify the venue. They do not establish a foreign-student concession or a universal document rule. Older generic student-fare links redirect and reseller wording is insufficient.

Decision for these two students: Student concession unconfirmed. Plan the adult-price visit and choose the actual show date, performance and seat category. Resolve passport fulfilment with the operator before paying if the chosen sales flow lacks it.

Use the right evidence before selecting a student product

1. Match the offer to the exact attraction, date and ticket or show. For Huangshan, check whether transport or cable-car components are separate. For Songcheng, compare the same show time and seat category.
2. If you want to try for the student rate, use the operator’s official contact and give the school’s country, full-time status, degree level and visit date. Ask whether the original foreign student card is accepted and what extra original documents are required. Do not send a full passport scan just to ask about eligibility.
3. For Hangzhou Songcheng, the published local visitor line is +86-571-87313101. For Huangshan, use customer service inside 黄山旅游官方平台 reached from the official scenic-area source. A reply must address your actual institution and dated ticket; “students get a discount” is not enough.
4. If no explicit answer arrives, use the ordinary category and bring the passport used for the order. Buy only after the order identifies how that passport holder receives and uses the ticket.
5. Choose a refundable product only if its displayed terms actually allow the change you need. Do not assume that adult tickets are universally refundable or that a student ticket can always be topped up at the gate.

Documents to carry if the operator confirms eligibility

• Original passport matching the ticket.
• Original current student card showing the institution and traveller’s name.
• Any enrolment letter, translation or additional proof expressly required by the operator; a translation helps communication but does not create eligibility.
• Saved operator answer and dated order. A written answer can support a discussion but does not override the published ticket terms.

Huangshan foreign-institution eligibility and Songcheng foreign-student eligibility remain unresolved; no operator reply, ticket purchase, automatic refund or on-site concession was obtained. The practical fallback is a valid ordinary ticket, not an asserted discount.
