Finish an airline purchase when the China-facing channel fails
If the airline fails before payment, take the failed itinerary to that airline’s booking support for an assisted booking and a final price. If a charge or payment authorisation already exists, stop and reconcile the first order before trying another seller or card. Finish only when each passenger has an issued e-ticket and the airline confirms the flights it covers.
Use the official channel for the airline in your question
Airline and official website: China Southern (CZ): www.csair.com/en/
Published contact: From overseas: +86-400-869-5539; website service menu 1-4-1 for domestic tickets, 1-4-2 for international. Published service 24 hours. Payment FAQ also lists +86-20-2239-5539. In mainland China: 400-669-5539.
Payment route to ask for: International-site Visa/Mastercard online, with the card issuer’s authentication. Website support expressly handles customer-assisted payment and website failure; ask which secure payment option it can offer for your card and market.
Airline and official website: China Eastern (MU): www.ceair.com; select the appropriate country/region, English and currency
Published contact: Global +86-21-2069-5530, published 24 hours; mainland 95530. Ask for ticket sales or an existing payment/order check as appropriate.
Payment route to ask for: Official FAQ lists overseas-issued Visa and Mastercard online. Ask support for the final fare and an available official payment channel; telephone card acceptance and fare matching are not established for every market.
The links and phone numbers are in Sources 1–5 below. A supported card brand does not guarantee that a particular bank, 3-D Secure challenge or itinerary will be accepted. Use the card issuer’s own app/number to check online and international transactions, available limit and authentication if payment is actually declined. A passenger-details error before payment is a different problem.
China Southern errors after passenger details
The China Southern traveller had already tried several browsers, desktop/mobile web and the app, and failed after passenger details before reaching card entry. Repeating those same steps or changing cards does not address the reported failure. The error alone does not tell us whether the cause was a passenger field, fare availability or the airline’s system.
- Keep one record of the intended flight numbers, operating carriers, dates, airports, passenger count, cabin/fare, currency and total, plus the exact error and time. Check whether any order was created; do not open repeated duplicate reservations.
- Call China Southern’s website-service team above. State that the failure occurs before payment on both the English website and app. Ask staff to check the itinerary/fare availability and create or complete one passport-based booking through an assisted sales channel. Ask for the final total and payment deadline before proceeding.
- If staff identify a specific input problem, correct that field against the passport. Use the passport spelling and document type; do not invent a shorter name, nationality or Chinese ID to pass validation.
- If the displayed fare cannot be issued, ask whether it is website-only, unavailable, or restricted, and obtain the next actual ticketable total. Then compare one alternative seller on the same operating flights, baggage and change/refund terms. The original traveller found an agent price over twice as high, so “use an OTA” does not solve the same-price problem by itself.
A visible search result or screenshot does not establish that the fare is still available to issue. We have not verified a way to force China Southern to sell the original displayed fare. The concrete escalation is to its own booking/payment support, followed by an informed choice between the confirmed offers.
WeChat mini-program demands a Chinese ID
The same traveller reported that the WeChat mini-program’s login required a Chinese identity card. Leave that login path if it will not accept the traveller’s genuine document. China Southern’s published FAQ allows non-member website purchases, and its international ticket rules use a valid passport/travel document. A mini-program login problem is not proof that foreigners cannot buy the airline’s tickets. Source 3.
Take the mini-program flight/fare screenshot to the same China Southern phone team. Ask for a non-member passport booking and whether that exact promotion is eligible and can be issued through an accessible channel. If it cannot, ask for the reason and final alternative fare; neither the phone desk nor another website is guaranteed to match a mini-program promotion. Do not enter somebody else’s identity document.
International portal price doubles at final payment
The China Eastern example was an open-jaw domestic journey PEK→XIY and XIY→PVG. The traveller had already checked both two passengers and one passenger, and the final payment price still doubled. Do not dismiss that report as a simple per-person/total misunderstanding, or assume all international portals sell only flexible fares.
- Before payment, save the search total and final breakdown for the same dates, flights, fare family, number of passengers and currency. Note baggage, taxes, fuel charges and any optional extras. Remove an optional extra only if you do not want it; do not assume it explains the whole difference.
- Call China Eastern’s global number and ask the agent to price that exact multi-city journey, identify the booking class/fare rules, and explain the changed total. Ask for a ticketable all-in amount and payment method. The airline may be unable to issue the first price; it has not been verified as an available offer.
- Compare the two one-way prices as well as the multi-city quote. If you select separate tickets, treat each as a separate purchase with its own baggage and change/refund terms; do not assume the combined protections or price remain the same.
- Pay only the final total you accept. If the first attempt generated a charge or pending payment, use the stop-and-check steps below before replacing it.
China Eastern’s current conditions say the applicable fare is the fare at purchase, with different fares carrying different change/refund restrictions; they do not promise to honour an earlier search display. We reuse those conditions as the current planning reference, not as proof of the rule governing a ticket bought for the 2025 forum journey. Source 6.
Charged or pending, but no issued ticket: stop here
What you can verify: Failure before card entry, no order and no bank charge
Action before another payment: Use assisted booking. If an order exists, ask support to retrieve or close it before creating another.
What you can verify: Bank shows pending/processing or a debit, seller shows no ticket or unknown status
Action before another payment: Do not refresh, re-submit or switch cards/sellers yet. Ask the airline/issuing seller to reconcile the exact order and payment; ask the bank whether the entry is a pending authorisation, settled charge or reversal.
What you can verify: Seller confirms a ticket was issued
Action before another payment: Obtain the e-ticket receipt and verify every flight; do not pay again because an email is missing.
What you can verify: Seller confirms no ticket and the first order is unpaid or safely cancelled
Action before another payment: Resolve the original payment status as well. Record any void/refund reference and the bank’s status; “refund requested” alone does not prove that the first transaction has been reconciled. Then arrange one replacement purchase.
What you can verify: Two charges or two ticket numbers
Action before another payment: Tell the seller explicitly that a duplicate arose during payment failure. Identify which ticket you intend to keep and ask it to resolve the duplicate; do not independently cancel both or assume a duplicate is automatically refundable.
China Southern expressly warns against repeating a booking after money was deducted without a ticket and against refresh/re-submit during payment. The same stop-and-reconcile sequence is our practical safeguard for the China Eastern case; it is not a promise of a refund deadline or outcome. Record order number, time/time zone, amount/currency, transaction reference and last four card digits. Do not send card security codes, passwords or one-time codes in an email or support chat. What counts as a finished purchase
- An e-ticket receipt for every passenger, showing the 13-digit ticket number, exact passport name, dates, airports and flight numbers. A short booking reference, invoice, payment receipt or reserved seat alone is insufficient.
- Confirmation that each required flight is ticketed and usable. Retrieve it through the airline’s trip/ticket-verification function, or have airline support confirm the electronic ticket when the website cannot find an agent-issued booking. China Eastern’s FAQ provides ticket verification with ticket number and passenger name. An empty “My Orders” account by itself does not prove an agency ticket is invalid.
- For codeshares, the operating airline’s locator and confirmation it can retrieve the passenger and flight. Keep the issuing seller’s contact for subsequent changes.
- The accepted final total, baggage allowance and change/refund conditions saved together with the receipt. If a ticket is reissued later, keep the new ticket number and recheck all remaining flights.

For a payment already attempted: Order [ ], payment time/time zone [ ], amount/currency [ ], transaction reference [ ], last four card digits [ ]. Please confirm whether this is an issued ticket, an unpaid order, or a failed/cancelled order with a payment to reverse. I do not authorise a second payment while the first order remains unresolved.
