Beijing courtyard hotels with breakfast and an outdoor smoking option

Booking sites show no local-style hotel with a smoking balcony

Start with Heyuan Zhixin for a traditional courtyard stay with Chinese breakfast, or Liuli Tile’s Tiananmen Square branch as a second named option. Both currently list a smoking-area amenity, but neither listing proves that a guest-room balcony is a permitted place to smoke. Ask about a specific outdoor area before buying a rate that depends on it. If a published hotel policy matters more than courtyard character, Hilton Beijing explicitly permits smoking only in designated outdoor areas.

Three properties and the reason to choose each

Breakfast and character evidence: Traditional siheyuan description; Chinese set breakfast 07:30–09:30. Listed adult breakfast charge: RMB 48 when additional. Check how many breakfasts your chosen rate includes.

Smoking decision: Character-first choice, conditional on its written reply locating a permitted outdoor smoking area. Its smoking-area icon and terrace description do not establish permission on a balcony.

Property and contact: Liuli Tile Courtyard Hotel, Tiananmen Square branch — 北京琉璃瓦舍四合院（天安门广场店）. No. 6 Xiao’anlanying 1st Alley, Xicheng / 西城区小安澜营头条6号. Trip.com lists +86 10 8310 8321.

Breakfast and character evidence: Restored siheyuan description; set breakfast 07:00–09:00, with Chinese, Western and Asian categories. Listed additional adult breakfast: RMB 58.

Smoking decision: Choose if its room, location and written outdoor-area answer fit better. Use the address and property ID 95458535 below; other Liuli branches have similar English names.

Property and contact: Hilton Beijing — 北京希尔顿酒店. 1 Dong Fang Road, North Dongsanhuan Road / 东三环北路东方路1号. +86 10 5865 5000; BJSHI.RES@hilton.com.

Breakfast and character evidence: Contemporary international hotel rather than a siheyuan. Its own page lists buffet breakfast for a fee; ask for a breakfast-inclusive rate or the current separate price.

Smoking decision: The strongest published smoking-policy evidence of these three: no smoking rooms; only designated outdoor areas. Ask reception for the current location and access hours.

The courtyard details and telephone numbers are from the current Heyuan Trip.com listing and Liuli Tiananmen Square listing. Both listings currently say they welcome guests from all countries or regions. These are platform property descriptions, not an inspection or a promise about your date. What Beijing’s smoking rule means for this search

Beijing prohibits smoking in indoor public and work areas and in queues. Where an outdoor smoking area may be designated, it must have signs and health warnings, be away from dense crowds and main pedestrian routes, and meet fire-safety requirements. Some outdoor places, including protected cultural-relic sites open to the public, are also smoke-free. A historic-looking courtyard is not automatically such a protected site, and an ordinary balcony is not automatically a smoking area. A hotel may impose a stricter smoke-free policy. These boundaries come from Articles 9–14 of the Beijing Smoking Control Regulation.

Get the answer that lets you book

1. Choose one property and send your dates, number of guests, intended room type and the confirmation card below through its booking contact or the published contact. If asking by telephone, request a written reply in your booking message or email before relying on the answer.
2. Require a specific outdoor location and any access hours, plus the breakfast inclusions and full price. “Smoking area available” without a location still leaves the essential question unanswered. If a balcony is essential, ask about the exact room and balcony; no source checked here establishes a smoking balcony at these hotels.
3. Compare the room total plus any breakfast charge for all guests. Keep the reply and the rate’s cancellation deadline. A request entered into a booking is not the hotel’s acceptance, and a breakfast amenity is not breakfast included in every rate.
4. At check-in, ask staff to show you the permitted area and confirm its signs and route. If it is unavailable or the answer changes, do not improvise at the entrance, in a shared courtyard, on a balcony or beside a queue.

English — I plan to stay from [check-in date] to [check-out date], for [guests], in [room type]. Please confirm in writing: (1) how many breakfasts the rate includes, their style and hours, and any extra charge; (2) whether there is currently a permitted designated outdoor smoking area, with its exact location, signs and access hours, away from main walkways and crowds; (3) whether my room and its balcony are both non-smoking. If no permitted outdoor area is available, please say so. Please also confirm the total price and cancellation deadline.

If the answer is no, unclear or too late

Keep the courtyard booking only if you are willing to stay without a confirmed smoking option. Otherwise, ask Hilton Beijing about a room for your actual arrival time and its designated outdoor area. It is a named alternative with a first-party policy, not a live room offer or the cheapest hotel. For a same-night need, telephone rather than wait for email; obtain the room confirmation, total charge, passport check-in arrangements and any late-arrival instructions before travelling there.

If an already-booked property cannot provide a feature it explicitly confirmed, ask the property and original booking seller for a written alternative or cancellation decision. On Trip.com, use Customer Support with the booking and property reply. Do not click through a cancellation fee without understanding it, and do not assume a smoking-area disagreement gives an automatic refund or pays for a different hotel.
